Self-care starts with you.
We hear it all the time, but do we honor it? I encourage you to first determine what self-care looks like for you. Let’s start with the basics.
Self-care = happy.
Self-care = the best version of you.
Would you be a happier version of yourself after you went for a walk, took a nap, saw a movie, hit the gym, got a massage… or simply spent a quiet hour alone?
This is for you to decide because self-care is all about you. It’s not selfish, it’s necessary.
Self-care looks different for everyone. For some people it’s movement and fresh air. For others, it’s rest. Sometimes it’s connection with friends, and sometimes it’s solitude. The important thing is recognizing what actually refills your cup—not what the world tells you should feel relaxing.
Too often, we put ourselves at the very bottom of our priority list. We take care of the kids, the partner, the work deadlines, the household responsibilities, the social obligations… and by the time we finally think about ourselves, there’s nothing left to give.
But here’s the truth: when you constantly run on empty, everyone around you feels it too.
So here’s my challenge to you.
Put YOUR self-care at the TOP of your priority list. Yep—rank it up there at the tippy, tippy top. Not somewhere squeezed into the leftover moments of the day. Not as a reward once everything else is finished. But as something that is built into your life as a non-negotiable.
Give yourself a full month of making yourself a priority.
Schedule the walk.
Book the massage.
Take the nap without guilt.
Go to the gym.
Watch the movie.
Do the thing that makes you feel like yourself again.
And watch what happens.
When you take care of yourself first, you show up differently in every area of your life. You become more patient. More present. More energized. More compassionate. You become the version of yourself that the people around you deserve—and the version of yourself that you deserve too.
You will be a better parent, partner, family member, and colleague.
Because the best thing you can give the world is a version of you that is nourished, rested, and fulfilled.
So yes—put yourself first.
At the top of your priority list.
Always.
